I feel it is a little stylised.

yes, typical of that kind of illustrative painting...well done of its kind but not sure whether it could be classified as fine art...GBHs...XXX

Oooh! Lovely men! All fit and sleek. Thank you, Colin.

Not TOO muscular for you?

- 2009-07-03 @ 21:31:06
No. Atually these are muscled from natural work.
I don't like the ones that appear pumped-up 'a la Popeye.' Those who lift heavy weights and take enhancing steroids. A discord of the male human body. When they become older, the muscles hang like old bells. -

This looks like a picture done for a book or story magazine to me - although I have no evidence whatsoever to back up my claim!
It is always a matter of personal taste, which is why art fascinates, but for me it is a little to close to the "yard and a half of rowers please" school of commercial art.
All of that said, if I had but one ounce of the skill that this artist possessed I would be a very happy chappy.-

You are right. I think it is 'imagined' and not a representation of an actual event.

Soviet "heroic" paintings come to mind :-)

It's a pretty good pic in line with illustrations in earlier magazines...far superior to the female rower one....GBHs...XXX
